Bird Feeder

To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Old Friends

I had a best friend in high school named Penny. When we went away to college we were room mates and then we were in each others weddings. We tried to keep in touch through the years but life and miles got between us. Penny was always the organized one and keeps sending me birthday and Christmas cards each year. She always addes a letter to update me on what is going on with her. This last Christmas when I got her card and letter she had added her e-mail address and I vowed then to write to her. So I did keep my vow and how wonderful it feels to touch bases with her again. Somehow the people that have shared those very young and developing years hold deep strong places in your hearts. Now I want to take the time to make a trip to visit with her. She only lives about a 5 or 6 hour drive from us so there isn't any really good reason not to visit from time to time. I guess that could be said for my sister who lives in Oregon. She is only a 6 hour drive away. I can't seem to find time to do that either. What is it about everyday life that seems to callas our minds to what is really important?
